In most cases a 12 or 13-year old would be flattered that another club had come to their door looking to sign them. And therein lies the problem. If you complain and the other club is found to have breached the rules - what happens to the player? At the very least they could be disillusioned by both teams. Do they stay with the team that has just stymied their move to what they apparently thought was a better, or more exciting team?
Either way, it is an age-old problem and is nigh-on impossible to prevent. And remember that from 1st June it is well within the rules to sign a player who has not yet re-signed for his old team. Why has he not re-signed? He could have re-signed from 1st May, so what was the hold-up?

It is up to the team secretary to ensure that a player turning up for training is not registered with another team. Just asking the player if they are signed with another team is not considered sufficient defence. If a player who is registered with another team trains with you he is not insured. Only true trialists, players not registered with any team, are covered by your insurance (in addition to your own registered players, of course).
This should change at the SYFA AGM when a consitution amendment will allow a player to train with another team, providing his current team secretary has given written permission.

I totally agree with that rule......does help players whom are struggling to get a regular game, it gives him time to get another team while not losing his position with his previous team. And still playing football.

I think you should make a complaint about the club in question.
ye its shocking mate.
when i had Gorgie Hearts last season i had one of my coaches (from one of the kids team) trying to poach players. last season (adults) i lost a cracking left midfielder to a team a league above. we won a double, the team he went to won nothing. i still dont understand why he left. it happened at saturday adults when i was there, so i guess i can expect it here.
my view is this :
if u can give a player a little more than the teams around you, re : good training, good kit to wear etc, i think that will keep players a little happier.
i only know this through experience.
what we can never stop is any team trying to get a message to one of your players, that you are interested. all it takes is to tell one of your players to tell him on the park, or get a message to him through a friend.
so we get to the point where we have no idea if a coach has asked or a kid has asked. its happened to most of us i guess
what can be done ?

the coach of the team and the parent told me.
luckily a complaint wasnt put in, but should have been
i think the more that complain, the less it might happen.
if people do complain, and the league can prove it happened, then the league, we would hope, would hammer them to the letter of the law.
as said, it happens. and anything we say here wont stop it.
sadly, part of the game
the lads that do it have 0 respect from the rest who play by the rules
